Apologies and Extra Prophesized Tidbits

Tuesday, October 8, 2013
Recently, I've been receiving a few angry messages from readers about the end of the third book. I understand that my cliffhangers are...well the cliff is very high. I'm sorry about that. I didn't go into this series thinking about how can I manipulate people into buying the next book in the series. I honestly didn't and I'm sorry if you think that. I just wrote until the characters told me to stop. I wrote until I felt like that specific book had come to an end and it was time to begin the next one.

I'm not writing to make money. I could care less about the money. I'm writing because I love writing. I'm writing because these characters are speaking to me and want me to tell their stories. I'm sorry if you feel manipulated in any way. That was not my intention. In the synopsis for the first book, I mentioned that BlackMoon Beginning was the first installment in a four-part series.

When I published BB, I was prepared for people to hate my book. I was prepared for negative criticism on my writing. As a reader, you are fully entitled to hate a piece of work and you are allowed to vocalize that, but please don't go after a writer. I'm not just talking about me. I've seen it happening a lot recently to many authors. If you want to, hate the work, hate the characters, hate the world. Don't hate the writer.
Now that that's out of the way, we can move onto more interesting things! I was going to give you all a Bonus POV this week, but I felt the need to state the above instead. I will post the POV soon, I promise--probably sometime this weekend. In its place, I'm just going to give you all a few more tidbits about this series. You'll want to read these! (Well some of these.)

1. The flirtiness of the characters needs to be addressed. There isn't a love triangle or a love square or a love star in this series. I insinuated a potential one (Liam-Ryanne-Colton) but I never thought that people would put Ryanne with David or Logan or even Bragden. David and Logan flirted with Ryanne because they knew about Colton's crush on her. They were instigating him. Nothing more. I don't write love triangles.

Also, there are clueless people in the world. A lot of people have mentioned that no one is as clueless as Ryanne is. Let me tell you, some people are. Not me. Obviously. *coughs and looks around suspiciously.* But there are. Believe it.

Now about the cliffhangers: THESE ARE SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED THE BOOKS YET.

1. Claire had to die. Don't question it. Just go with it. All will be revealed in due time. ;)

2. Colton had to die. I cried so hard writing the end of the Scorching Secrets and the beginning of Descending Darkness. Right after I wrote the end of SS, I immediately went straight into writing DD. I needed to remain in that zone. That I-can't-even-see-my-computer-screen-through-my-tears-but-I'm-totally-feeling-what-Ryanne-is-feeling zone. I even wrote the scene where he died before he actually died. It brought about things in the third book. *more coughing*

3. Descending Darkness originally ended with Colton screaming "You killed her!" That was it. I stopped it there. However, I felt like that ending was too similar to Scorching Secrets, so I reworked the ending to include part of the first chapter from the fourth book. I thought that the new ending wasn't as bad as the Scorching Secrets.

4. There's no cliffhanger in the fourth book :)

Those were just random facts. I know that that you probably don't care about that, but I decided to mention them anyway. I didn't know how to else to bring them up.

The fourth book is not the end.

Well, it is the end of the series, but not the end for all the characters. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do more with these characters. I didn't want to be one of those writers that didn't know when to stop, but as I've thought about this more, I've decided that I am going to write the short-stories/fifth book wrapping up everyone's storylines after the end of the fourth book. It will not be a continuation of the series through.

I've actually already started this. It's going to be really cute and I think you'll love it. It even has a title. Yes, you read that correctly. A title has already been chosen. I've also decided that I'm going to write Claire's novella, so this fourth book will not be the end for the Prophesized characters. :) I have a title for the novella too. I'm really proud of myself for having thought of these so early.

I also have an idea for a spin-off novel/series running through my mind, so after the short-stories and novella, there may be more stories to be told in the mage world. This series will be based on a story told in the fourth book. I'll reveal more after the book is published.

(Unless you guys completely hate the fourth book and don't want more of the mage world!)

Once, I finish editing the fourth book and watching Firefly and then the movie Serenity, this will be me:

I promise.

Now, I have to get back to editing the fourth book. I'm going to reveal the title for it on October 22, so check back in on that day to find out the title for the final book in the Prophesized Series. If someone can guess it correctly before that date, I'll reveal it sooner. It's an alliteration like the other three. :D

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by my blog!

  3. ignore them. your books are the best, and honestly i also don't like cliffhangers, but at the same time i love them because they make the story even more interesting. plus, if they are complaining about the cliffhangers, than that's a good thing because that means that they enjoyed reading your book, and are curious to find out what happens.

  4. I happn to like the way you ended the books. I was like I have to read this series, but it's not the first series I've bought by the cliffhangers. It gives you something to look forward to. The more you can pull me into a book the more likely I will buy them. Keep doing the great job your doing, don't worry bout the haters. You are a favorite author of mine now. Can't wait for the rest of your work. : >).

  8. For them to get angry about the cliffhangers, it means that they're (gasp) reading your books happily (well, to the end anyway! LOL). That's a very good thing! It means they're hungering for more! If they think it's about getting them to spend money, they're idiots. You clearly write because you love writing. You're great at it, and I for one love the cliffhangers because it makes me know that you care enough to want your readers to continue reading your work! More power to you and keep it up!! :) And ps; can't you release the book on 10/21 instead of 10/22? My birthday and all...... :) LOL!

    Thanks!

    Liz
