Most Frustrating Fictional Characters

Tuesday, February 12, 2013
Have you ever read a book where you were just frustrated with one of the main characters that you almost stopped reading the book all together? Well, I have. I'm that person that talks to the fictional characters as I'm reading a story. I'm constantly telling the characters what to do and when to do it and guess what? They never listen to me.

This blog post is about some of the books that I ended up loving, but hated while I was reading it and the few that I just...didn't like.

*WARNING: this post will contain spoiler alerts, so if you haven't read these books yet, don't read further.*

Will and Tessa from Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2) Two characters in this book frustrate me to no end: Will and Tessa. If you're team Will, you understand why. I don't even know where to begin with these two. Don't get me wrong, I love Will. And I love Tessa. But these two characters frustrate me when they're together. Tessa knows and understands that she has feelings for Will and Will knows that he's in love with Tessa. Yet, are they together? No, because Tessa is with Will's dying parabati Jem. Now, I like Jem and I don't want him to die, but I do not want him to end up with Tessa. I don't want to give too much away, but when we found out why Will wouldn't let himself be with Tessa...my heart broke. I felt for him. I'm rooting for Will in the end. I will be anxiously waiting to find out who Tessa ends up with.

Clockwork Princess, book three in the Infernal Devices Series, is being released in March.

Kelsey Hayes from Tiger's Destiny by Colleen Houck

Tiger's Destiny (The Tiger Saga, #4) Let me start by saying that this is one of my favorite series. If you haven't read this series, you definitely need to read it. This book series was a breath of fresh-air. I love this world and the characters and basically everything. However, about half-way through this book, the fourth in this series, I want to throw it against the wall. I seriously almost stopped reading it and anyone who knows me, knows how bad it has to get to make me stop reading a book half-way through. Kelsey Hayes frustrated me so much. She was obviously in love with Ren, but stayed with Ren's brother Kishan. She loved Kishan, yes, but it was not in the same way that she loved Ren. It took her the whole freaking book for her to realize that and tell Kishan. In fact, she didn't even tell Kishan. He knew it and is the one that told her that he was staying behind. Then, when they go back to present time, she sulks. Does she go and talk to Ren? No. She just sulks. At they end, they finally talk it out and are finally together, but for crying-out-loud. It took forever.

I am happy with how it ended though, so it's all good. :)

Lucian from Blood Solstice by Samantha Young

Blood Solstice (The Tale of Lunarmorte, #3) Samantha Young is one of my favorite authors. I love all of her books. If you haven't read anything by her, you definitely need to. You won't regret it. I've read this book series so many times and every time, I get frustrated in the third book. I know what's going to happen, but I still get frustrated.

Lucian is a hard character to love, yet for some reason I do. I loved him at the beginning of the first book. Hated him at the end. Didn't like him in the second. Loved him against the end of the second and that feeling continued into the beginning of the third. Come of the middle of the third book, I hated him again. Then, at the end, I loved him. It was a roller-coaster ride, let me tell you. He and Caia are meant to be together, but these two characters were too stubborn to tell each other their feelings. Then, Rose came along. Rose. I hated her, but for a completely different reason. When Lucian kicked Caia out of the pack, I wanted to stop reading. How could he do that? He should have known Caia a little better than that. I'm just glad those two finally came to their senses.

Like Tiger's Destiny, I'm happy with how this book ended.

Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Pride and PrejudiceI love this book, but seriously. How long does it take for you to get over your pride and prejudices and live happily ever after?

The rate at which their love for each grows is very believable, so I commend Jane Austen for that. I think this book would have been much better if I didn't already know everything that was going to happen. That's about all the complaining I have for this one.

On a different note, I just watched the 2005 movie adaption for this book for the first time on Saturday and I love Matthew MacFadyen's (Mr. Darcy) voice. Oh my gosh. <3

Characters that just frustrated me:

Bella from the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer

Twilight (Twilight, #1)
No explanation necessary.

She needs to go have a talk with Dr. Phil, if you know what I'm saying.

She has some serious issues.

Zoey Redbird from the House of Night Series by P.C.Cast and Kristen Cast

Marked (House of Night, #1) When this book series first came out, I really liked it. I read like the first...I don't know seven or eight books. Now there are like, what? Twenty? I just lost interest in this series. But while I was reading it, I kept getting frustrated with Zoey.

I feel like she's the Taylor Swift of the fictional world. (No offense to Taylor Swift.) But really? She cannot go without having a boyfriend.

Maybe she got less annoying in the later books...I don't know. I don't really plan on reading any further in this series to find out though.

Romeo and Juliet from Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

Romeo and Juliet This one is also going to be pretty short.

They are young.

They fall in love.

They kill themselves.

AFTER THREE DAYS? What?

I'm sure there are many more characters, but these are the few that I could think of off the top of my head.

Has anyone else gotten frustrated with these characters? What are some of the more frustrating characters you've read recently?

That's all I have for today. Until next time!

  1. HAHA I completely agree about Zoey being the fictional Taylor Swift. Too funny. I have lost interest in the HON series too. Nothing new ever happens anymore. I think it should have been concluded a few books back. I am a new follower to your blog. Will you follow me back at sychofaeriesbookobsession.blogspot.com Thanks!

  2. I'm impressed, I must say. Rarely do I encounter a blog that's both educative and amusing, and without a doubt,
you have hit the nail on the head. The issue is something
that too few folks are speaking intelligently about. Now i'm very happy I came across this during my search for something concerning this.

  10. Another note is that ports won't admit non-operable vehicle for roll-on
roll-off transport service. When you're going to create decision to ship your car in California then you must please take a idea regarding the
