1. This book is based on a short story and a dream. Yes, you read that correctly. A dream. I just pulled a Stephenie Meyer on ya'll. (For those of you who don't know, Twilight was written because of a dream.) I wrote the scene where Ryanne first met Liam, in the dream world, my junior year of high school for a creative writing class. Then, last summer, I had a dream of a house explosion and I don't know...Somehow I found a way to connect those two details to write BlackMoon Beginnings.
2. The book is set in Maine because at the time I was writing it, I really wanted to go to a college in Maine. I applied for Unity College to study Captive Wildlife Care and Conservation, got a really nice scholarship, and then decided that I wasn't ready to go all the way to Maine. Also, I couldn't afford it even with the scholarship. Haha So, I based an entire book series world in the state that I want to visit someday.
3. Colton was always Colton. I changed the names of a lot of my characters during the writing process. For example: Ryanne was originally Jocelyn. Then, I changed her name to Rayne, because I thought she was just going to control weather elements (get it?) and then I switched the letters a little and had that Ahhhh *angels singing* moment and I knew that that was her name. Liam was originally Gale. I searched and searched through baby naming sites and fell in love with the name Liam...and then I found that Liam Hemsworth was playing Gale in the Hunger Games...which was really strange, but I didn't change it. haha Colton's name was always Colton.
| Look at all that adorableness. Haha |
4. Liam is my favorite character. Don't get me wrong. I love all these characters--like seriously love them. They're my little babies, haha. But there's something special about Liam. I know what all my characters look like, obviously, but Liam is the one that I see the most vividly. He is so much more complex than I write him. It kind of makes me sad because I don't feel like I'm giving him justice when I write him.
5. I changed the title of this book so many times. Here are some of the working titles for this book: Discovered, Uncovered Magic, Newly Found, Unbroken Flame, A New Mage, Unbreakable, Secret of the Flame, etc. So many bad titles. When I stopped thinking about it, BlackMoon Beginnings came to me. I didn't think it sucked as much as the others, so I stuck with it.
That's about all I can think of for today. If you guys liked this post, I will give you little details about all the books in the Prophesized Series and possibily other books that I publish. As of right now, I have to get back to editing Descending Darkness. This was a fun little break for me, but now I have to get back to work!
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend :)
