The Prophesized Series

For anyone who has checked under the upcoming projects tab on the top of this blog, you already know some of this information. However, a lot readers have been asking me some questions, so I decided just to create a specific blog entry addressing all of them. 

1. This whole series is already written.

Yes, you read that correctly. Books 2-4 are done. I decided to finish writing the majority of the series before I published, because I knew my schedule would become hectic. The only thing I have left to do is edit. That is why it should not take me too long to release the next book in this series. I do want this book to be perfect, so I'm editing a little slower than I did for BlackMoon Beginnings.


2. I am a college student. I'm currently a freshie, so I do have a lot of school work that I'm trying to balance on top of writing. I only have a month left of classes though, so I will have a lot more time to edit and write soon. I hope...

3. I know that the cover for BlackMoon Beginnings is not great. I created it myself with Photoshop. Somewhere down the line, I will get a new "pretty" cover for that book. I know many people judge a book by its cover, so a nicer one is definitely a must.

4. Book two in the Prophesized Series will not be free. I'm sorry for that. If I could, I would release all my books for free, but it does take a lot of hard work to get a book ready for publication and I just can't afford to do that. Don't worry, it will be cheap :) I understand the value of a dollar and don't want anyone breaking the bank to read my book.

5. I am contacting a graphic designer/illustrator who will help me create an awesome cover for book two. I'm not going to rush her, but that could push the release date back a little bit.

6. I'm aiming for an early May release, but THIS IS TENTATIVE. With my school schedule and finals quickly approaching, I'm not sure how much time I will have in the upcoming weeks to finish editing. So please be patient with me. I'll try to not keep you waiting for too long!

7. Book two will be written in two different perspectives. It'll alternate between Ryanne and Colton. I don't feel many readers connected with Colton in BlackMoon Beginnings and I'm hoping that that changes with this book. In case you missed it, I posted a bonus chapter from book one on Wattpad. This chapter is written in Colton's perspective. You should check it out!

As Promised. . .

I promised that once I got 20 honest reviews on Amazon that I would post a bonus chapter written from BlackMoon Beginnings onto my blog.

I found out this morning that my book reached the twenty reviews, so I posted the bonus chapter on wattpad. I didn't think you wanted to read it all from my blog.

I'm posting this bonus chapter on wattpad as a way to gear everyone to how I wrote book two. 

Book two in the Prophesized series changes between Ryanne and Colton's perspectives. I originally wrote it all from Ryanne's perspective, but something about Colton kept nagging at me. I thought that he deserved to tell his story as well. Both characters have a lot going on and hopefully the changing perspectives will allow readers to connect with them both on a deeper level.

I honestly love writing Colton's perspective and I hope you guys like reading it!

I'm still working hard to get through editing book two in time for an early May release. Please keep waiting patiently. If you liked BlackMoon Beginnings, share the love and tell your friends! You guys are the best :)

TEASER TUESDAY!

Since I finished my first round of edits for book two last weekend, I decided to post a little teaser from that section. I still plenty more rounds of editing to go before it is ready for publication. Please keep waiting patiently. Hope you like it!

As my feet hit the ground in front of Jane’s, I am overcome with a feeling a dizziness and would have collapsed had Larkin not had a hold of me. “It’s a little disorienting the first couple of times.” He explains.

I don’t care how many times it takes to get used to the feeling. There’s something I have to do right now. I turn around and look around the yard for the man. I had a vision. I know he'll be here. When I see him step out of the trees, I take off towards him. Surprise is going to be my method of attack. Who would expect a 5’3” girl to come running towards them during the middle of the night?

My body collides with his and knocks us both to the ground. I push my magic out and straddle him, to keep him on the ground. He is momentarily stunned, but soon starts to struggle to get out of my grip. I know I won’t be able to keep him down for long.

“Ryanne, are you crazy?” Larkin reprimands me as he catches up. The man beneath me pushes against my magic and knocks me to the side. He turns around and punches Larkin in the jaw, before returning his attention back to me. Larkin falls the ground, unmoving.

You can’t count on a guy for anything.

The Weekend Rundown!

I don't know if anyone else is like me, but sometimes I just feel like I have to write. I've been editing a lot, so I feel like I have to write something. Since I don't want to work on any new books because I'll become more and more invested in them, I decided to update my blog. I haven't posted anything new since Tuesday! Golly gee, I have failed as a blogger.

Anyways, here's the low-down for what is coming up.

I'm going to hopefully send book two off to a few friends and family members this weekend, so we can get farther into the editing process. I'm still aiming for an early May release, but that is tentative. Since I'm in college, I have to make that my number one priority. May 3rd is my last day, so hopefully I can get book two out a few days after that.

Then, I'm going to start looking for some photos to use for cover art. It just dawned on me yesterday that I have to have a cover for the book...I'm a poor college student, so I don't have any money to pay anyone to create one for me.

Tomorrow, I'm going to read a book and hopefully get a review up. I haven't had much time to read recently and I think I'm going through withdrawals. I miss reading.

If you missed it, I created a fan page on Facebook. It's preposterous that I would need one, but if you liked my book, you should like it! ;) I'd really appreciate it.

Also, I mentioned a few posts ago, that if I get 20 honest book reviews on Amazon that I would post a bonus chapter from BlackMoon Beginnings to get everyone prepared for book two. Only 6 more reviews to go! So if you downloaded the book from Amazon and have already read it, can you leave an honest review? I would also appreciate that! They don't even have to be good reviews! (Though, I'd rather they were. haha)

Lastly, I want to thank you all for reading and supporting me. A lot of readers have contacted me and thanked me for writing this book. THANKED ME! 

I'm completely shocked. That's one shocked cat. If I was a cat, I would look like that.

I couldn't be more thankful for all your support. You have all made this whole publishing thing worth it. I'm excited to see where this continues to take me!

Teaser Tuesday: W.I.P.

The teaser today is from my most recent work in progress. I actually already have a title for this book and I've written over thirty pages within the last few days. I'm really liking this book and the direction it is heading in. It's way different than my other series.  It's going to be a lot more emotional than anything I've written before. I've already had a few moments where I've had to stop writing, because I was about to cry. 

This teaser is a little longer than my previous ones. I have a lot of tests and quizzes coming up this week, so I won't be around as much. As I get farther into book two edits, I'll start posting more of those! Don't worry, I won't leave you all hanging for too long. 

This is going to be a mature YA novel. I hope you like this teaser!

Prologue

Bryce Aarons

Today’s the day. I’m going to finally tell her.

I finish tying my tennis shoes and grab the daisy’s that I had bought earlier and head out the front door. Lainey lives just around the block, so I can walk there.

Lainey and I have been best friends since we were thirteen. We made it through middle school and high school together. In the fall, we’re both going off to college together. We’ve been inseparable since the day I punched a guy on the middle school playground who wouldn’t leave her alone.

I got suspended, but I made a best friend.

At that time, Lainey was beautiful. Long light brown hair that curled at the ends and big bright blue eyes. As she got older and started getting noticed more, she started to hide beneath herself. I thought she was just self-conscious. I thought she dyed her hair because she wanted to express herself. I thought she wore the dark clothes because she wanted to hide in the shadows.

There so many things that I should have caught onto back then.

Now, I know different.

That jerk she lives with is always hurting her. That bastard of a step-dad is always laying his hands on her if she doesn’t do something the way he plans it.

I remember when she came over to my house one night during our sophomore year and she was helping me cook dinner for my parents and I accidentally spilled water on her sleeve. I grabbed a paper towel and grabbed her arm and started cleaning it up for her.

She tried to pull her hand back, but I kept drying it. The sleeve of her shirt moved up a little and I saw it—the deep black and bruise completely wrapping around her whole wrist. She stopped trying to fight me and stilled, watching me silently. I pushed her sleeve up a little further and found a few more bruises on her pale skin.

“Who did this to you?” I asked as I looked away from the bruises and into her eyes. She bit her lip and looked out at the window above the sink. “Lainey, who did that?”

“Gregg,” she whispered at last.

Her step-dad? “Gregg hits you?” She didn’t give me an affirmation, but I could tell based on her posture that it was true. I turned her wrist over and saw a few long scars on her skin. Self-inflicted scars. “Lainey, please talk to me.”

“You can’t tell anyone.” She turned and looked at me as he pulled her sleeve down. “You can’t say anything to anyone.”

“Lainey, you’re cutting yourself,” I said as I took a step forward. She’s hurting herself, because her step-dad is abusing her. I had to tell someone. I had to do something. “I have to tell someone.”

Lainey took a step forward and grabbed onto the front of my shirt. “You can’t. Swear to me that you won’t say anything. I’m not eighteen yet, they’ll take me away. I don’t want to leave. Promise you won’t tell anyone.”

“But…”

“No buts, Bryce. Promise me,” she said. When I continue to just stare down at her, she takes a step forward. “Please just be here for me,” she whispered as she rested her head on my chest. “Just be here.”

I wrapped my arms around her waist and placed my chin on her head. “I’ll always be here, Lainey. I won’t tell if you promise to stop cutting yourself.”

I felt her nod beneath me. I heard a car door shut outside, meaning that mom was home, so I forced myself to release her. “I won’t cut anymore, but you seriously can’t tell anyone. Ever.”

And I never have. Soon we’ll be going off to college and she won’t have to deal with Gregg anymore. I turn into her driveway and step onto her porch. I can hear yelling on the other side of the door.

I can’t hear anything that is specifically being said, but I can tell that her mom and Gregg are arguing. Where’s Lainey? I knock twice on the door and the yelling stops. Lainey’s mother opens the door and I freeze when I see the tears streaming down her face. Lainey’s mother is tiny. Barely over five feet tall and thin as a rail, she couldn’t hurt a fly. Gregg is a different story. The man is intimidating. I can see him pacing in the background.

“Lainey’s not here,” her mother says with sadness ringing out her voice.

“Do you know when she’ll be back?” I ask her.

Shaking her head, her mother disappears for a few seconds. I’m left standing in the open door. Gregg looks at me and I can’t help the glare that I give him. He knows that I know what he does to both of the girls living in this house. His gives me his signature cocky look and turns away.

Lainey’s mother reappears a minute later and hands me a piece of paper. Without saying anything, she closes the door. I look down at the paper and see my name written in her perfect handwriting. Lainey's perfect handwriting. My heart plummets into my stomach. Without even opening the note, I know what it’s going to say.

I drop the flowers and turn around. I can’t read this here. Not caring who sees me, I run to our spot. I take the shortcut through the field. Lainey loves sitting beneath the tree at the back of the field. The large one at the entry line of the woods. The woods scare her, but for some reason, she always loved sitting at this tree. Through the years, it became our spot.

I stop beneath it and try to catch my breath. Though it’s almost summer, there is a chill in the air. I lean back against the tree and look at my name on the paper.

Lainey left.

Taking one deep breath, I unfold the paper and start reading.

Bryce,

     I’m sorry that I have to tell you this in a note. If I could do it any other way, I would. I couldn’t risk you talking me out of this. I need to do this. I need to get away. I can’t take it here anymore. I’m scared all the time. I’m scared that Gregg is going to get so drunk one night that he’s not going to know what he’s doing. I’m scared that he’s going to hit me in just the right spot that I’ll never wake up from it. I don’t want the last thing I remember to be his fist coming towards me. I’m been beaten too many times by him. I’ve broken bones too many times because of him. I literally cannot take any more of it.

I want to be set free. I want to spread my wings and fly away from this hell-hole. I want to find my own little piece of heaven in an otherwise dark world.

I know that we had all these plans we were going to do. All these dreams we were going to accomplish together and I’m sorry that I’m ruining everything, but I have no other choice.

Thank you for being my best friend when no one else would. Thank you for staying by my side even after you found out the truth. You’ve always been there for me. You never left and I can’t return that. I’m so sorry.

I don’t know where I’m going to go, but I’m eighteen and they no longer have any control over me. They can’t tell me what to do anymore. I’m not going to let him hurt me anymore. I feel horrible about leaving my mom because I know that she’s just as much of a victim as I am, but I have to. I have to Bryce, please understand that.

Someday I might come back, but please don’t count on it. Move on. Forget I existed. You are destined for big things, Bryce Aarons. Despite the joking, I do see a successful career for you with a beautiful-wife and two kids. You’re going to make it. You have it in you. Don’t stop fighting because of me.

I won’t stop either.

You were my guardian angel, Bryce. I don’t know how you did it, but you brought me out of my dark cloud. You made me stop cutting, which probably saved my life. When I was around you, I felt alive. I didn’t get that feeling anywhere else.

You’re my best friend and I’m sorry that this is how we end. I wish things were different, but as I’ve learned over the years, wishing is pointless. Some things in life can’t be changed. The only way to cause change is to do it yourself, which is what I’m doing.

Go to college and get an education. I seriously do believe that you have greatness ahead of you.

Newer Version is Up!

I have finished another round of editing. I stayed up until 3:00 a.m. working on this version. I have uploaded it to Amazon and Smashwords. In a few weeks, Smashwords will distribute the new copy to Barnes and Noble, Kobo, Sony, and iBooks, so if you download from either of those platforms, please be patient. I go through Smashwords so I can keep the free listing price.

It's Been One Month Already?

Good morning/afternoon/evening/night! (I don't know when you'll read this, so pick the one that applies to you :] ). I'm going to try and keep this post short and sweet, but as many of you can probably tell, I have issues with that...I can be a little wordy when I get going. 

BlackMoon Beginnings has been out for one whole month! I can't believe it. I'm so thankful for everyone that has read it and rated it. My book is now on pretty much every book site out there. I'm on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, iBooks, Smashwords, etc.

I'm honestly baffled by the amount of people who have downloaded and read my book. I keep getting messages sent to my email or on goodreads from readers who liked my book and want to know when the next is coming out. I'm completely shocked by it, but I'm really glad that everyone is enjoying it.

In fact, I was #7 in the Top Ten free Kindle ebooks for teens. Do you see that? That's my book ranked next to the paid ebook version of Divergent by Veronica Roth. I almost cried when I found that out. 


If you are currently reading the book, I'm sorry about the errors in it. Right after I finish this post, I'm going to go back to editing it. I hoping to finish that this evening and upload a newer copy onto all the sites tonight. A newer version should be up on Smashwords and Amazon by tomorrow morning. 

For those of you asking, book two is planned for an early May release. This is subject to change though. I haven't been able to start editing yet due to my class schedule, but hopefully I'll be able to begin tomorrow. I won't keep you all waiting too long!

How influential is music?

I follow a lot of author's blogs and this seems to be a pretty common topic. How influential is music to your writing?

For me, I can't write unless I'm listening to music. I sit down, put my headphones in, and start writing, I'm in my own little world; in a specific place with my characters. I block out all background noise. It's just me and my characters. I'm the invisible third person in the scene with them. Like scenes in movies, there is background music playing creating a specific mood.

I recently just finished the fourth and final book in the Prophesized Series and for anyone that has read BlackMoon Beginnings, you know that there are a couple of action sequences. For those sequences I had to get some stronger music that what I would usually listen to.

You see, I'm a huge Josh Groban fan. Seriously. I'm borderline obsessed, but his music doesn't cut it for action scenes. I cannot write a fighting scene with "You Raise me Up" blaring in the background. It just doesn't work that way. During those scenes, I pulled up Pandora and listened to the Hedley station. It gave me good mix of Imagine Dragons, AWOLNATION, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Matchbox Twenty, etc. That is much more suitable for the scenes I was working on.

Right now, I'm writing two books, reediting BlackMoon Beginnings, and beginning my edits for its sequel. I was on Youtube today randomly clicking through song videos and I came across this video. I watch the TV show Smash. I love the whole musical thing and I heard this song it on Tuesday night, but thought nothing of it.

However, when I clicked this video today another scene flashed before my eyes. I got an idea for another book. Another book! I'm in college, I don't have time to write three books at once. In fact, I don't have a whole lot of time to write at all.

But when this book idea came to me, I couldn't stop thinking about it. Seriously, it moved into my mind and proclaimed itself the sole inhabitant there. I'm already thinking of characters, their situations, plot developments. I'm thinking of everything. I can't stop. I literally started to get shaky because I knew that I couldn't start writing it. If I started, I wouldn't be able to stop. I can't wait for summer to get here. I need to finish all these books that I've started.

This is the song that I was listening to when this new idea came. 

If I ever actually write this story, it'll be a mature YA. If I was comfortable writing NA, it would fall under that category, but I'm not. However, it's going to be more emotional than my other books. It'll have more angst, sadness, tension, confusion. Basically everything you hate to read, but love when you're done and have let everything soak in. I'm already getting antsy just thinking about it. It'll be a story of second chances and redemption with a possible happy ending. I'm not sure yet. Ahhh....I need to write it.

Music inspires me. It has been said that when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade. Bland, tart lemonade. Music provides the sugar I need to sweeten the lemonade. Music gives me the inspiration I need to write. It allows me to put all these thoughts down on paper and create these stories. It moves through me and pushes me in certain directions. BlackMoon Beginnings, along my other books, would probably not have been written if I didn't have music to help me.

Teaser Tuesday :)

Tom walks into the kitchen behind me. “How are you holding up, kid?”

“I’m okay. I talked to Liam last night. He helped me feel a little better about the whole thing. It’s weird though. I only knew her a couple of weeks, but I miss her. This kitchen feels really bare without her here. I keep expecting her to walk through those doors and tell us that she baked something.”

Tom comes over to me and gives me a small hug, kissing the top of my head; a very paternal gesture. “I miss her too.” I can hear the sadness in his voice. I look up at him, right as he turns away and clears his throat, trying to hide his emotions. “Why don’t you go join everyone?”

He doesn’t want my comfort, so I slowly turn around and head back into the living room. I linger in the doorway and look over my shoulder briefly at Tom. He's running his hand through his hair and staring out of the window above the sink. I understand how he’s feeling. When my mom died, I didn’t want to talk with anyone either. I just wanted to be left alone.

I realize now how wrong I was about that.

Just Bought . . . TBR

I didn't get to read as much as I planned to while on spring break, but I used a gift card that I previously won from writing a poem about a book series that I read and used that to buy some books. These books have been in my to-be-read pile for a while now and I'm super excited top finally start reading them.

1. Incendiary (The Premonition Series, Volume 4) by Amy A. Bartol

I'm so excited to finally read this book. It came out in November and I'm just now getting around to reading it. I've kind of failed as a Bartol fan, who by the way follows my blog! One of my favorite authors follows my blog. Crazy, I know.

Here a little blurb about this book from Amazon:

Cold, fine drops of rain fall softly on my cheeks as I emerge from the darkness of the ship’s interior to the gray, overcast sky of the main deck. Pulling my dark pea coat tighter to my body, the wind lifts red tendrils of my hair. I walk slowly to the railing overlooking the water.

This book has excellent reviews and has been on a lot of recommended lists. I've wanted to read it, but I didn't really have any money until now. Also, I just love the cover.

3. Deeper We Fall by Chelsea M. Cameron

I've read a few books my Chelsea M. Cameron and really enjoyed them. Also, I follow her on twitter and her tweets are awesome. Seriously, you should all follow her. Anyways, a few weeks ago, I did a cover reveal for the sequel to this book, so I decided that I should probably read the first one. This book has great reviews, so I'm looking forward to jumping into it.

4. Ashes and Ice by Rochelle Maya Callen  

I've never read anything by this author before, but she was featured on a couple blogs that I follow and they all seemed to love this book, so I'm giving it a chance. Also, I seriously love this cover. It's so pretty.

Good News and New Cover Reveal!

My book was made free on Amazon last night! Finally, I know. I've been reporting it for a the past few weeks that it was lower on Barnes and Noble and Kobo and they finally changed it! Yay. Anyways, I woke up this morning and found this.

I'm in the top 100 for free teen Kindle ebooks! #84 like what???? I can't believe it. I don't know how that happened, but I'm really grateful.  :) I'm going to upload a newer version either today or tomorrow that is hopefully free of errors.

Prophesized Series Update and Jennifer Snyder Cover Release

Though I only have one book out, I'm always writing. Seriously, I write all the time. Last night, I put the THE END on the fourth and final book in the Prophesized Series. The series is over. I'm done. I honestly can't believe it. Granted, I have a ton to edit, but all the new, fun stuff is over.

Since I started writing in June, I have written over 1000 word document pages. Yes, you did see three zeros at the end of that one. I don't know how my hands haven't fallen off yet or how my keyboard keys are still intact.

I can't wait for everyone to read the rest of this series. For once, I'm actually excited to start getting other books out. My book has been received so well that I'm actually starting to have more faith in my work. So thank you all for that :)

I still reediting BlackMoon Beginnings and a newer version should be uploaded before the end of the week! Also, in case you missed it, I posted a teaser to another book series I'm working on on Tuesday, so you should check that out.
