Find Your Magic.

Wednesday, July 31, 2013
I've gotten a few emails lately that have actually made me cry. I literally had silent tears streaming down my face. I love hearing about all of your writing endeavors and I'm so humbled to hear that my writing has helped you in any way.

Now that I have BlackMoon Beginnings and Scorching Secrets out in the public, I've been doing a lot of thinking lately. I feel like a lot of us writers and readers can relate to each other in some way. To me, reading is an escape. I read because for a short period of time, I'm somewhere else. My mind is focused on something else and I forget about everything going on around me. I write...just because I love to. Before I use to think that I liked writing because I was in control...but I'm not. My characters are in control. It's their story--not mine.

Let me give you a little background about me: I was and still am a very self-conscious person. I don't have much self-confidence. I'm a relatively shy person.I'm easy target. I can't stand up to people. I have trouble saying no, because I hate disappointing people. I can't lie. I will start laughing or just creepily smile at you. But that's okay. I'm slowly coming out of my shell. I'm slowly gaining a backbone and becoming more assertive. College has helped me realize that there's no need to be shy. We all have different experiences and besides a select few people, no one cares. They don't care that you were the nerd in high school. College is a clean slate. I feel that it has helped me a lot with my insecurities.

Writing is a release for me. Reading is a release for me. When I decided to write, I just wanted someone to relate to my story. I wanted someone to read my book and be inspired. I wanted someone to read it and think they could do that too. I'm not talking ending a supernatural war like Ryanne is attempting to do. I'm talking about overcoming insecurities and putting yourself out there. Writing and publishing is hard work. You may not think it is, but it's true. Publicly publishing something is opening yourself to criticism from an abundance of strangers. For someone who already has a low self-esteem, it's hard convince yourself that it's worth it.

http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/3a/c4/fd/3ac4fd714131cac3012240dfe265fc7e.jpg There's always going to be someone that tries to tear you down. Whether it be a family member, a friend, an acquaintance, or a random stranger, there's always going to be someone there. But you have realize, there are people rooting for you. There is someone out there that wants to see you succeed. The nay-sayers are always going to be around, but surrounding yourself with people who care makes it all worth it in the end.

I'm only 19. I thought that if I told people that, they'd automatically disregard my book and choose something else. I thought that they'd think, "Oh that was written by a teenager, it can't be good." In the beginning, I just told everyone that I was in college. Once a few people found out my age, I realized that it can actually be a good thing. I don't think that writing should have an age attached to it. If you love writing, write. It's that simple. You don't have to be in the twenties or thirties to put your work out there.

I'm so thankful for everyone who has supported me during this process. You all have made me realize how worth it putting yourself out there is. It's a struggle, yes, but what rewarding thing in life isn't? I believe that if you don't have push yourself, you don't deserve the prize at the end of the finish line.

Living inside your comfort zone, is safe. I realize that it is comfortable in there (hence the term comfort zone), but sometimes the most worthwhile things lie just outside. Taking that simple step across the line is a challenge, but it may be the most fulfilling thing you do. Life isn't about success, it's about learning. Failure is destined to happen, but wallowing in it never changes anything. Learning from mistakes is one of the strongest things you can ever accomplish.

Put yourself out there. Step outside your comfort zone. Try something new. You never know what can come from that.

Find your magic. Until then, don't let the muggles get you down. :)

Five Facts about Scorching Secrets

Saturday, July 27, 2013
Since everyone seemed to like the facts about BlackMoon Beginnings, I've decided that I am going to give facts about all the books in this series. So, here are the five facts about Scorching Secrets.

1. The title of this book was originally the Secret of the Flame. This tied into a section that is in the fourth book later on (When you read that section, you'll understand). It wasn't until I started to think about book covers that I decided to go with an alliteration title to match the first book. I wanted the title to have something to do with a flame to allude that there's more to Liam that meets the eye. All of the secrets with Liam have not been revealed yet. ;)

2. There are two scenes from this book that I absolutely loved writing. The first one being Jane's wedding scene with Ryanne and Liam. I wanted to write a scene where Ryanne realized that there could be something worth fighting for; there might actually be a future for her. The second scene was the forest scene at the end of the book with Ryanne and Colton. I really like writing scenes where I can divulge a little bit of background information about certain characters.

I also really liked the cake scene.

3. The dream that Ryanne had where she saw Christian Bale at the mall and then threw up on his cute body guard was based on a dream that I actually had. I thought it was awesome, so I wrote it into the book. Haha, like Ryanne, I kind of have a slight obsession with comic book movies.

Yep...that's Batman for ya.

4. I wrote this book from alternating POVs because I didn't think all readers connected with Colton much in the first book. I thought that writing from his POV would allow for everyone to understand why he does certain things or acts certain ways. He's a stubborn character and like Ryanne, he tends to make things more complicated than they should be. Honestly, I really like writing from dual POVs because it allows for me to think like a different character--to actually get in their heads and fully understand them. Hence, the extra bonus POVs.

5. There are some things in this book that were left unanswered for a reason! Those are not plot holes. Please stop telling me my books are riddled with plot holes. Haha, they may be, but the things being brought up, are not plot holes. I intentionally mentioned a few once and only once, so that if you read it the next two books you will have an "Oh my gosh, everything is starting to make sense now. That Kaitlyn knows what she's doing." (Even if I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. *smile and nod*)

Everything I do is totally intentional.

I'll post facts about Descending Darkness about a week after it is published. That will give everyone some time to read it and process everything that's happened. Those facts will be better than this one, since there is more that happens in Descending Darkness than in Scorching Secrets. :)

I'm getting very close to finishing! I finished my last round edits last night and now I'm just updating my word document. I have a friend that is still editing, so I just have to wait until she's finished. I'm starting to work on formatting and should be able to get you a date in a few days! It'll be ready soon, I promise!

Again, thanks for being so patient with me!

Longer Teaser for Descending Darkness :)

Tuesday, July 23, 2013
imageHey, it's Tuesday!!!! Teaser Tuesday.

I know that I haven't given you much information about this book and I apologize for that. I kind of fail like that. At the moment, I don't have much information to give. I am still waiting on a few things to pan out before I give any details. I'm sorry! Please don't throw tomatoes or small stones at me.

Because you all have been so patient with me, I've decided to give you all a longer teaser from this book. (I've failed to give you all many teasers, becuase I feel like this whole book is like a big "spoiler alert," hence the lack of teasers.) Hopefully this will hold you over for a few more days! Haha. Let me know what you think!

*this is unedited and subject to change before release.

 *****
I don’t recognize the house I am transported to. It looks familiar, though I’m not sure why it does. Since it’s dark outside, I can’t effectively assess my surroundings. I slowly walk up to the navy door and knock. Tuning out all the environmental sounds around me, I listen for what is on the opposite side of this door. No one answers, but I think I can hear talking inside the house. I twist the golden doorknob, but it’s locked. The sound of glass shattering filters outside and then someone screams. Larkin blinks in behind me. “It’s locked,” I tell him.

“No problem.” He grabs me and pushes me behind him. Larkin takes a step forward and kicks the door down. It slams into the wall with a loud bang. That’s impressive. I try not to jump at the sudden sound, but I do. Larkin smirks when he sees my reaction. I roll my eyes and look back towards the door.

What I see when we enter the house surprises me. The room is a mess. Broken pieces of glass are all over the ground from the fallen lamps. The couch is overturned and pushed against the wall. I feel my eyes widen when I see the three people in the room. Conner and Natalie are being asphyxiated by Natasha. She’d attack her own family? Her own twin? Without thinking, I run and tackle Natasha while throwing up a shield around Conner, Natalie, and Larkin. I place a small one around myself. “Larkin, get them out of here!” I yell to him.

“I’m not leaving you here,” he tells me.

“Take them now!” I scream as Natasha shoves me off of her. I do a backwards roll and stand up. “Now!” Larkin grabs onto Natalie and transports her out of the room. Conner remains on the ground, coughing, trying to catch his breath. I understand what that feels like. I’ve experienced that a few times myself. Natasha runs for me. She is trying to use her magic on me, but because of my shield, it isn’t working.

I duck her attack and swing around, slamming my body weight into her. Knocking her to the ground again, I try to knock her out, but she throws me off of her. I roll to the side, hitting the edge of a display case. It shakes and sways. I roll out of the way as it starts falling. The case hits the ground with a loud thud and glass from the windows on the doors shatter and fly in all directions. I cover my head to keep from being hit with the fragments.

Glass embeds itself into my forearms and legs. Though my arms are covering my face, I feel a shard knick my cheek. Warm, wet blood starts dripping down the right side of my face. Natasha comes toward me again. I jump back up and swing my leg out, knocking her in the head. She falls to the ground but doesn’t stay there for long.

Larkin blinks back into the room and grabs Conner. He glances over at me but leaves again. I drop the shield around the room, since it is no longer necessary. I call magic into my limbs right as Natasha pushes herself off of the ground and faces me again.

“I’m getting really tired of you,” she tells me while trying to punch me.

I duck to avoid her fist, and then swing my leg out, knocking her off balance. “I’m not too fond of you either.” I grunt as she punches me in the stomach when I stand back up. Without pause, she leans back and kicks me in the shoulder, throwing me into the wall. I hiss as my head cracks against its surface and I slump to the ground. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a lamp on a small side table. I blink the dizziness away as she starts stalking toward me again. With my magic, I reach out for the lamp beside me and picture it knocking Natasha out.

I push more magic toward it as she gets closer. “Dravin will love to know that I found you. He’ll be here any minute.” I glance over at the lamp which is now vibrating on the table. Pushing a little more magic toward it, I turn toward Natasha. Since I am focusing so much on the lamp, I drop my shield. Natasha smiles at me as I start to lose my breath. I still concentrate on the lamp. It is shaking more violently now. Why is this taking so long?

I fall to the ground, trying to remain conscious long enough to push enough magic toward it. I thrust all my remaining magic at it. Though I can’t breathe, relief floods through me when the lamp leaves the table. It flies forward and hits Natasha in the head. She screams and slumps to the ground. Coughing violently, I call out for Larkin.

Five Facts about BlackMoon Beginnings

Saturday, July 20, 2013
One of the authors I follow on Facebook, Rachel Higginson, does this thing where she gives five facts about her book series to everyone who likes her page. I really like that idea and thought that I would give you all a few tidbits about BlackMoon Beginnings, why I wrote it, the characters, etc.

1. This book is based on a short story and a dream. Yes, you read that correctly. A dream. I just pulled a Stephenie Meyer on ya'll. (For those of you who don't know, Twilight was written because of a dream.) I wrote the scene where Ryanne first met Liam, in the dream world, my junior year of high school for a creative writing class. Then, last summer, I had a dream of a house explosion and I don't know...Somehow I found a way to connect those two details to write BlackMoon Beginnings.

2. The book is set in Maine because at the time I was writing it, I really wanted to go to a college in Maine. I applied for Unity College to study Captive Wildlife Care and Conservation, got a really nice scholarship, and then decided that I wasn't ready to go all the way to Maine. Also, I couldn't afford it even with the scholarship. Haha So, I based an entire book series world in the state that I want to visit someday.

3. Colton was always Colton. I changed the names of a lot of my characters during the writing process. For example: Ryanne was originally Jocelyn. Then, I changed her name to Rayne, because I thought she was just going to control weather elements (get it?) and then I switched the letters a little and had that Ahhhh *angels singing* moment and I knew that that was her name. Liam was originally Gale. I searched and searched through baby naming sites and fell in love with the name Liam...and then I found that Liam Hemsworth was playing Gale in the Hunger Games...which was really strange, but I didn't change it. haha Colton's name was always Colton.

image
Look at all that adorableness. Haha

4. Liam is my favorite character. Don't get me wrong. I love all these characters--like seriously love them. They're my little babies, haha. But there's something special about Liam. I know what all my characters look like, obviously, but Liam is the one that I see the most vividly. He is so much more complex than I write him. It kind of makes me sad because I don't feel like I'm giving him justice when I write him.

5. I changed the title of this book so many times. Here are some of the working titles for this book: Discovered, Uncovered Magic, Newly Found, Unbroken Flame, A New Mage, Unbreakable, Secret of the Flame, etc. So many bad titles. When I stopped thinking about it, BlackMoon Beginnings came to me. I didn't think it sucked as much as the others, so I stuck with it.

That's about all I can think of for today. If you guys liked this post, I will give you little details about all the books in the Prophesized Series and possibily other books that I publish. As of right now, I have to get back to editing Descending Darkness. This was a fun little break for me, but now I have to get back to work!

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend :)

What's the release date for Descending Darkness?

Thursday, July 18, 2013
I know that I haven't given much information about the release of Descending Darkness yet. This post probably isn't going to give any new information. I'm waiting on a few things before I give you all an official release date. I don't want to promise a date and then have to disappoint everyone if I can't meet it.

I was freaking out when I was supposed to publish Scorching Secrets. For this book...I'm going above and beyond that worry level. I don't know why, but I'm terrified about releasing it. (I'm not terrified enough that I won't release it! Don't worry about that.) But that's another reason why I've been pretty secretive about this book. I don't want to raise your expectations and then fail to reach those.

Right now, I'm still editing it. I've already read through it three times. I've had two of my friends read through it and help me search for errors. I just recently sent it to another person who is going to help me edit. I'm reading through it another time. This time, I'm reading it backwards...because I'm weird like that. Hopefully we'll find everything. I haven't found many errors this round, so hopefully it'll be ready soon!

I am going to get it out before I go back to school! I can promise that much. I still am hoping to get it out by the end of the month.

On another note, I have created that Pinterest Board that I mentioned previously. Here's the link:

I haven't posted any pictures of Colton, Ryanne, or Liam. I feel like everyone has a specific image in mind when they read those characters. I have an image that I used when writing Colton, but I haven't found anyone that looks like Ryanne or Liam yet.

I've decided that I really like doing that, so I'm going to create boards for all the books that I publish. I already have two secret boards for my current WIPs. Keep an eye out for those in the near future!

I think that's all I have for now. If you have any questions, comment below or send me a message and I'll get back to you!

The Fault in our Stars by John Green Review

Monday, July 15, 2013
The Fault in Our Stars"My thoughts are like stars I can't fathom into constellations."

I started reading this book at 1:30 a.m. You may ask yourself, "Why, Kaitlyn, would you sit down and open a book at 1:30 in the morning and start reading? Shouldn't you have been sleeping?" My response would be the simple four letter acronym that seems to have taken over my generation: YOLO. Just Kidding. I hate YOLO. My actual response would be: I wasn't tired.

I am now. Let me tell you...I can't sleep when it's bright outside, so going to sleep at sunrise wasn't a smart idea.

Here is the synopsis from Goodreads:

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

Non-Spoilerish Review

This book has to be the worst/best book I've ever read. I finished the book in a little under four hours and then I just sat in my bed wondering "What did I just read?" I knew the book was about two teenagers with cancer, but this book was so much more than I was expecting.
The last 100 pages had me crying. Not the steady tears streaming down your face crying. This was the I have to put the book down because I can't see through the downpour coming out of my eyes, and I have to close my bedroom door because I'm sobbing so loud and oh wait, I can't breathe either type of crying.

Don't let that description deter you from reading this amazing book. Though I mainly cried, there were a few moments where I did laugh. The dialogue between Augustus and Hazel is just...I don't even know. You'll have to read the book to understand what I'm to say here. I just wish people actually spoke like that.

Then, there is Augustus Waters. I love him.

This book tugged my heartstrings the whole way. I knew when I shed a tear about 100 pages in that I was a goner. I feel like John Green ripped out my heart, stomped on it a couple thousand times, and then shoved it back into my chest upside down, leaving me with an unsteady heartbeat and partial blindness from the tears streaming down my face. Yeah, it was that good.

Read this book. Love it. You won't regret it.

Here are some picture quotes form this book:

After you read the book, you will ask yourself: and this was written by the man that made this Youtube video?:

By the way, if you haven't watched any of his vlogs, you need it. They're great.

This book is set in Indianapolis, which is where I live. It was weird that he mentioned the mall that I shop at! My little Indiana town was the setting of a book. It shouldn't surprise me because John Green is from this area, but it's still cool to read about a familiar setting.

Please, read this book. You will not regret it. This book is so beautifully written that even now, I'm crying as I think about what happened in this book. I seriously questioning my life right now, but that tells me that it's a good book. If it leaves this sort of lasting impact on me, it needs to be read by everyone.

Prophesized Series Pinterest Board?!?

Sunday, July 14, 2013
I had this thought earlier that "Hey, I should create a Pinterest board to visualize certain scenes, settings, characters, etc. from the Prophesized Series." So, that's what I did. I do that a lot. I thought that having a Tumblr would be a good idea, but then I forgot about it...because I'm very forgetful.

Now that I've created a board (it's currently set as private, so don't go looking for it just yet!), I can't think of anything to pin on it.

That's where you can come in.

Are there any pictures that you have seen that have made you think, "Oh, that reminds me of the Prophesized Series" or are there any actors/models that you think look like the characters in this series?

I have some actors/models picked out that I think look like certain characters in this book series, but I would love to see who you think would make the perfect Ryanne, Colton, Liam, David (insert all other characters here). I'll post my choices at a later time!

I was also thinking that I could post some teasers from the next two books onto this board.

You can post your ideas in the comments below or email me with pictures. If you don't have any ideas and think that this is a stupid idea, let me know! You won't hurt my feelings :)

I still want to go see Despicable Me 2...someone should take me. No joke.

Age Doesn't Matter: Just Write.

Friday, July 12, 2013
I apologize for my disappearance lately. I'm back home now and have strong wifi again. I never realized how much I relied on wifi until...I had a very weak connection. It's quite pathetic actually. However, it did give me a chance to finish another round of Descending Darkness edits and start yet another book.

I've gotten a few emails lately that have actually made me cry. I literally had silent tears streaming down my face as I read the emails. I love hearing about all of your writing endeavors and I'm so humbled to hear that my writing has helped you in any way. On a side note, if you are writing and are stuck, I'm available to shoot off ideas or just talk to to get you out of your funk! (I seriously love talking to other writerly people.)

This post is a response to a common thing I've been reading in these emails. Let me start off by saying this: I'm only 19. Though I'm technically considered an adult, I still classify myself as a teenager. For the next five months, I'm still a TEEN. I've had a few people state that they were afraid to start writing because they thought that they were too young.

You are never too young to write.

Writing shouldn't have an age. If there is a voice in your head, you can write. If there are scenes playing in your mind, write them down. If there are characters that are literally screaming at you to hear them, listen. Write them down. Don't push them back until you're older. Sometimes there's no better time than the present.

Please, don't let anyone tell you that you are too young or too old to do what you want to do. It's never too late to start something. If you're still in high school, you can still write. If you're in college, you can write. If you're a stay at home mom with two kids, you can still write. If you are retired, you can still write.

I was that shy girl in the background. In high school, I told two friends that I wanted to write. I was afraid to let others know. It took me leaving high school and going to college before I realized that I didn't have to be that stereotype anymore. I didn't have to be that shy girl that no one really knew. I didn't have to always sit in the back and let everyone shine around me.

One day, I decided to listen to the weird voices in my head. I'm glad that I put my craziness on the page. I talk to imaginary characters and live in my imagination on a daily basis, and I love it. If you're a shy person, but feel like you have a loud inner voice: write. It's really that simple.

I know that I'm not in a position to be telling you what to do, but if you want to do something and already have a passion for it, why aren't you doing that? Writing isn't something that the second you turn 25, you acquire a talent for it. It comes naturally and it'll show no matter what age you are.

Now, I don't think that I'm necessarily a good writer, but my characters demand that I write them out, so that's what I do. They screamed at me when I ignored them until I wrote their stories down and let others read them. I'm constantly writing stories in my head and now I can do that for others as well. It didn't matter that I was 18 when I start writing. It doesn't matter that I'm young or still in school. I like writing, so that 's what I'm doing.

If one person reads this post and starts writing, it'll be worth it. Don't be afraid to talk to someone about it! Send a message to your favorites authors. From experience, I know that many indie authors are very willing to help their readers out in any way that they can. Don't be afraid to send emails asking for advice or writing tips. At least for me, I love talking to other writers and am willing to help in any way that I can.

Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something. If someone says that, prove them wrong. Only you are standing in your way.

Descending Darkness Details

Monday, July 8, 2013
I've gotten a few (A LOT) of emails asking about what happens in this book. I'm going to remain pretty quiet about the details of this story, but I can give you a few details and answer a few questions.

1. This is probably the longest book in the Prophesized Series. I've thought of a few things that I want to add to the fourth book, but as of right now, Descending Darkness is about 10,000 words longer than Scorching Secrets and 5,000 words longer than the fourth book.

2. This book does have a cliffhanger ending. However, I don't think it is as bad as SS. You shouldn't be grabbing the tissues! But hey, if you think about, it's the last cliffhanger you'll experience with these characters. The fourth book has an official ending--and I absolutely love that ending :)

3. There will be some new characters introduced and some smaller characters will become more important. A few people have guessed correctly as to who these characters are, but I'm not going to confirm or deny anything right now.

4. Will Colton be in this book? *Zips lips and throws key away*

5. Will there be any romance in this book? There will be some romance in this book. I can't tell you between who though. A lot of people were confused about the lack of romance in the first two books in this series since it is located in the teen Romance section on Amazon. I wanted the romance in this series to be believable. I hate insta-love, so I tried to develop a relationship between my characters before I got to anything romantic. A lot people have speculated what is going to happen in book and some have been correct...some have been WAY off.

6. The tone of this story does change throughout the book. I wouldn't really say expect twists and turns...but do expect change. Things are going to get more serious with the mage world. This is a Supernatural War after all.

Here's a slight teaser from Descending Darkness.

Don't worry! There's still some comedy! There's one scene that makes me literally laugh out loud when I read it--which says a lot considering I wrote it.

7. I think that this is my favorite book in this series. This and the fourth one. I think that I just felt the characters more when I was writing the next two books in this series. Something just clicked.

8. I did cry while writing a few scenes in this book, but it wasn't as bad as when I wrote Scorching Secrets. I wasn't ugly sobbing, so I don't think you all will cry. I'm not really sure. I wasn't expecting to hear that people were bawling at the end of SS either. I expected a slight welling of tears in the corner of your eyes, but I wasn't expecting that sort of reaction.

I think that's all I can say right now. I'm still looking for some more teasers to post, but it's hard considering I really don't want to give anything away.

Thank you to everyone that downloaded and spread the word about Scorching Secrets this past weekend. I ranked again! I almost cried when I saw that it was in the top 100 for Paranormal & Urban and Paranormal & Fantasy. I love writing, but I didn't start writing because I planned to publish. I wasn't expecting anything to come from this, but you all have accepted me and I can't thank you enough. Thanks for taking a chance on someone you didn't know! I can't believe everything that has happened this month. Even as I'm writing this, I'm getting a little emotional. You all have surprised me in more ways than one. I'll always appreciate everything you all have helped me with.

Lastly, I'm going on another mini-vacation this week. During the car ride, I'll start working on another POV in between editing. I'll release that one if:

1. I get ten more reviews on Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Those ten can be all on Scorching Secrets or mixed between Scorching Secrets and BlackMoon Beginnings. Reviews really help, so I'd love if everyone who hasn't rated either book yet, rates them.

OR

2. I get up to 120 likes on Facebook. I'm almost to 100 likes, which is crazy! This 'ol Indiana almost has 100 likes on Facebook and only like four of them are family! Woo! Haha :)

OR

3. Descending Darkness gets added 25 more times on Goodreads, totaling 40 adds.

Thank you for vising my blog today! I hope you all have a fantastic week! :)

Bonus Scorching Secrets Scene: Liam's POV

Thursday, July 4, 2013
This may be my shortest blog entry yet!

As a thank you for all the support you guys have given me, I've decided that I'm going to write small scenes from the already two published novels from a different POV. If there's any scene that you really want to know from a different person, email me or comment below! I'd be more than happy to attempt to write it!

I already wrote a scene from BlackMoon Beginnings from Colton's POV and people really took to that. This time, I attempted to write the wedding reception scene in Scorching Secrets from Liam's POV.

Now, I don't think I truly captured Liam's voice correctly in this, but until I figure out what is missing, I'll let you guys read it. Liam is a complex character. His history is a complicated one. There's a reason why he keeps to himself and is so stoic all the time. I go much farther into his history in the fourth book (I explain the scar and the tattoo), but until you guys get to read that book, here's the scene:

Liam's POV from Scorching Secrets

Let me know your thoughts! (If it sucks please tell me and I'll rewrite it!)

I'm going to get back to editing Descending Darkness. I have another blog post that I'll post this weekend that gives a few more details about that book, so keep an eye out for that!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and supporting me! :)

Want More Prophesized Series Scenes?

I was going to wait until after I published the entire series to ask this question, but I couldn't stop thinking about this.

Is there any scenes from the first two books in the Prophesized series that you would like from another character's perspective?

I was already planning on writing a companion or just a series of bonus chapters officially ending everyone's stories at the end of the series. These would be a collection of alternating perspectives and I'm still planning to write that once it's all over. (Maybe--if you guys aren't sick of these characters by then) I'm also going to write Claire's story because it is way too complicated to put in the books. I have to work out a few details before I start working on that though.

I can't promise that I'll actually write it, but I would love suggestions. I've been working on some bonus material and I thought that I would see what you guys would like to read. There's one scene that I'm going to write no matter what, but I'm really interested to see what you all want to know more about.

I was thinking about releasing a small scene from a different perspective once I reach certain milestones. Like after every fifteen reviews or ten likes on Facebook. Little things that I could give back to you guys for all the help you've given me. Or maybe scenes from the characters before the events in BlackMoon Beginnings: i.e. what Emma, Logan, Bragden, Liam, Larkin, etc. were doing.

I haven't figured it out exactly, but I would love to reward you guys for all the support you've given me recently!

Let me know if you have any ideas! Or if you think that this is a totally stupid idea, let me know!

I'm going to get back to work on Descending Darkness. I've been looking for some future teasers, but it's really hard to find a section that isn't going to give anything away. Just know that I am working on this book and I am still hoping to get it out at the end of this month.

Seriously. Thank you all!

That's a Wrap: UtopYA Con 2013

Monday, July 1, 2013
Let my start off by saying this: I was right in my previous post about UtopYA Con. I totally fangirled. It was bad. I'm also going to apologize here for the length of this post. A lot has happened in two days, so it's probably going to be pretty long.

If you're reading this post on my blog, you obviously like books. Any book lover has those authors that you just look up to. Those ones that you hope to someday be like. I met all of those authors during this convention. It's one thing to read what they post online, but it's another to talk to them in person. It's strange to actually see them outside of my Kindle or outside of the blogging/social media world. I have to remind myself that these are just people. Real, honest people, not just figments of my imagination that happen to write awesome books.

This has been an amazing experience. I've learned so much at each of the panels I went to that I will be applying to my writing and how I start to market my books. As of now, I've not really done any marketing on the Prophesized Series. Everything that has happened has been because of word of mouth. You fans are amazing at spreading the word, so thank you for that! I reached out to maybe three blogs total and never heard anything back, but after going to the Blog Your Face Off panel, I'll probably start looking into some things.

I think the biggest thing that resonated with me was that these people understand. Not just the authors on the panels, but everyone. We were there because we all share a common interest. These authors were talking about how real their characters were to them. My characters are real to me. My sister is always making fun of me because I talk to my characters. When I'm stuck, I sit down and talk with my characters. Ultimately, it's there story. I'm just the person that's putting it down on paper. These authors said that this weekend. They stated that their characters are as real in their mind as my characters are in mind. I makes me feel less weird about what I do, because I've found out that I'm not alone. There are others like me! I don't have any other writer friends, so it was really cool to hear that from someone else.

Read all of her books if you haven't. She's amazing!
Yes. That is me with Shelly Crane. The Shelly Crane: NY Time and USA Today best-selling author of the Significance Series.

She's seriously the sweetest person you will ever meet. I was almost too chicken to go up and talk to her, but I'm so glad that I did. Then, I got an autographed book, Accordance, which I will never open. It's so pretty and I don't want to ruin it.

Now, all I need is a display case, a spotlight, and music that goes "Ahhhhh" every time someone walks past it. That's how treasured this book is going to be. I love my books...especially signed books.

This was the point where I almost fangirled.

I don't know what happened to me, but I totally fangirled over Amy A. Bartol. I was blushing before I even went up to talk to her. It took a lot for me to even get up the courage to walk up to her after the Music as a Muse panel.

I asked for a picture with her and told her about how she helped me get the courage to go forward with publishing and I almost cried. I don't know why I always cried, but yeah...that almost happened. Afterwards, I just sat down and started shaking. I was literally shaking. My sister found it so amusing that I was reacting that bad to just talking to her, but I couldn't help it. I mean...that's Amy A. Bartol for crying out loud. I'm surprised I didn't squeal in her face and run away giggling.

THEN, the next day, I went and bought a book (Incendiary--which if you haven't read the Premonition Series, please do. You won't regret it!) and she signed it and asked about my book series and I almost died. Yes, that is a total exaggeration, but still. It could have happened.

I'm sure she talked with many people throughout the day, but she remembered that I published a book. (It could be that I tagged her in stuff all the time on twitter...I'm not stalking, I swear! Just a big fan!) But it meant a lot that she actually asked.

Even now, the day after UtopYA Con and I still can't believe that I actually met her.

I think the thing that got me was that she contacted me before. In fact, she actually follows my blog. She wrote that message above on my Goodreads profile two months before I published BlackMoon Beginnings. The fact that an author that I looked up to wrote something like that was very helpful to me. The whole indie world is very supportive of each other and even if nothing else comes out of this book series, I will always be grateful for those simple words.

I really wanted to get a signed book from Samantha Young, but by the time I made it to her table, she had already left :( Slumber is one of my favorite books and I would have loved to have a signed physical copy. I will probably be buying a copy in the near future anyway though. I wished that I could have met her, but I chickened out every time I saw her. By the way, her accent is amazing.

Here are just some other pictures that I took during this time.

The first picture there is Victoria Faye Alday, who some of you may recognize her as the woman who designed my book covers! She's amazing. I kind of avoided her all day because I was afraid to actually meet her. I was a little star struck again. Haha. I'm weird like that. Sorry for my camera's poor quality.

The second picture is from the Cast Your Characters panel feature Chelsea Fine, Amy A. Bartol, Shelly Crane, Frankie Rose and her cover model Colin. (Colin walked around shirtless a lot during this convention...no one complained.) The last picture is of CJ Redwine and Samantha Young from the How to Snag a Traditional Publisher.

Also, I was asked for an autograph! I signed a UtopYA Con 2013 bag that had all the other author's signatures on it. SHE ASKED FOR MY AUTOGRAPH. Do you realize how big that is? I had a moment where I was like "Is this real life?" I couldn't believe it.

* I've linked all the books mentioned in this post to their Amazon page, so if you want to download them which I would highly recommend, you have easy access :)

I'd call this a very good experience for my first UtopYA Con. I will definitely be coming next year. I'm already looking forward to it and can't wait to see where this next year is going to take me.

The theme for the next UtopYA Co is aliens. Isn't that an awesome tagline?
